Packing for your Barbados Honeymoon — Expert Tips from Koncept Image Consulting

Every woman knows that packing for a trip is complicated and time consuming! If you’re like me, than you tend to throw everything you can think of from your closet and jewelry box into as many suitcases as you can carry– all for the sake of having “options.” We all tend to overpack no matter the trip– but selecting outfits can be especially hard when you and your spouse jet off on your honeymoon! I caught up with Barbados based image consultants Nadja Soodeen and Stephanie Acoca, owners of KONCEPT Image Consulting, to ask their advice on what to pack for your Barbados honeymoon. They’ve also given you a FREE PRINTABLE to plan out your honeymoon wardrobe!

Stephanie and Nadja are experts when it comes to fashion. Their company KONCEPT Image Consulting, helps clients improve their appearance for personal or professional reasons. Buying outfits for your honeymoon can be challenging! Where do you recommend women start when they want to create a fashion “look” for their honeymoon?

Creating a ‘honeymoon wardrobe’ would depend on where you’re going and the type of honeymoon you’ve planned. Honeymoon in the Caribbean means beach, sea and a lot of sun. Pinterest is a great source of ideas and there is no need to shop specifically for this trip. We are sure there is a plenty of summer outfits hiding in your closet you can revamp and look fresh. Remember, honeymoons are all about lovey-dovey time and you should not over think the wardrobe.

What types of outfits do you suggest brides pack for their honeymoon here in Barbados?  (I.E. — beach look, daytime casual look, fancy dinner outfit)

For your daily looks you will need bikinis, bikinis and more bikinis. One-piece bikinis are very in, but choose a style that suits you best and think about those tan lines. Pack light, simply colored, sundresses or cover-ups, nothing to clingy and with breathable fabrics as it is quite hot and humid here. Jean shorts are a must! You can accessorize with hats and cute sunnies to boost your look. For a night out or dinner in Barbados, bring out your boho chic. A nice flowy, maxi dresses worn with flat sandals and a few pieces of jewelry are perfect. Beach hair waves are trendy, so leave your blow dryer at home. Keep your make-up minimal, no need for foundation or strong colors.

What are your tricks for packing light and repurposing certain pieces?

Most women over-pack, but you can easily arrange your outfits with a daily outfit planner. By putting together and photographing each outfit per occasion, you will avoid unnecessary pieces in your suitcase. Best pieces to repurpose are jeans shorts, lose tops and bikinis worn as tops. You DO NOT need anything long sleeves in Barbados, so forget about that inner voice saying:” Just bring this jacket or pants if it gets chilly at night”.

Selecting which shoes to bring is always a challenge! What do you recommend brides bring for footwear?

The good news is that you do not need heels in Barbados. You can still look super chic with an embellished flat sandal, or simple strappy leather flat. Obviously, a pair of flip-flops are a must, Havaianas are Koncept’s favorite.

Where should brides shop while on island for some cool fashion pieces to take home?

We would love to help anyone shop here in Barbados. We know many local artists, designers and authentic souvenir shops where you can get unique, made in Barbados pieces to bring home as a memory of your honeymoon.
