Barbados Destination Wedding: Creating an Out of Town Welcome Guest Bag

We love out of town guest bags around here– especially for our clients hosting a destination wedding in Barbados! An out of town welcome bag is the perfect way to welcome your guests as they arrive to their hotel, villa, or condo after a day of traveling. Our friends at engage! have perfected the art of the guest swag, but here are some examples that we’ve done for clients in the past, working with the talented paper artist and out of town bag guru Nichole Michel of Coral Pheasant.

Our bride Nicole wanted to do something special for her guests, and also wanted to incorporate her wedding’s design into her welcome bags. She chose to continue with the purple and gold color story, gifting guests refreshing mini bottles of Perrier, custom bags of Lindt truffles wrapped in purple and pistachios. Guests also received a detailed itinerary of the weekends festivities and a “do not disturb” sign for their hotel room. All these goodies were packaged beautifully in gold lid top boxes!

In a previous post we shared with you our photoshoot inspired by Pineapples & Stripes– and for this shoot Nichole conceptualized an adorable welcome bag which was actually a bright yellow pineapple, filled with a mini bottle of smirnoff, pineapple juice with a custom label, tropical trail mix with a custom label, a “do it yourself” cocktail recipe, and a hot pink and gold polka dot shot glass (in case your guests wanted to get right down to business!). I love this welcome bag because it incorporates so many elements from our design– and it is colorful, cheerful and completely unique!

For our Gatsby Themed photoshoot, appearing in our book The White Dress in Color — Inspirations for the Modern Bride, Nichole designed a gorgeous gold wooden box filled with decedent goodies! A welcome note following the design style of our paper story was attached, along with a gold wrapped custom candy bar, custom “salty” and “sweet” treat bags, and a bottle of Verdi sparkling wine!

For our destination wedding clients in Barbados, we recommend some of the following bits and pieces to accompany your welcome bags, depending on your weddings style:

  • A welcome note, thanking your guests for making the special journey
  • A detailed itinerary of the weekend, including things to do during guests’ “off” time
  • Bottled Water (it is, after all, hot!)
  • Mini bottles of Bajan Rum (there are plenty of varieties to choose from) with mini Coke cans
  • A custom cookie shaped like our beautiful little island
  • A Bajan Sweet Cake
  • A mini bottle of our famous Bajan pepper sauce

Happy planning! x
